In the last three days, EuropeActive participated to three conferences in Brussels.

The Conference of HEPA Europe was held on 15th-17th November 2017 in the University of Zagreb, Croatia. This year the main topic was “Modern approaches to physical activity promotion and measurement”. Events also included the annual meeting of HEPA Europe and parallel sessions of most of its working groups.

In 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults aged 18 years worldwide and older were overweight. Of these over 600 million adults were obese. The cost of obesity-related illnesses will reach $1.2tn every year from 2025 unless serious measures are taken.

On the 22nd of September 2017, the European Commission's Seminar on Healthy Lifestyle in Tartu ended with the publication of the Tartu Call for Healthy Lifestyles from the European Commissioners Navracsics, Andriukaitis and Hogan. Overall, the Call includes 15 important actions that have to be taken in a fight with a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet.

EuropeActive’s Promoting Physical Activity and Health in Ageing (PAHA) project has been judged to be a success story by a panel of experts from the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission. It is only one of 15 selected from 237 Erasmus+ projects to be given this special status. The PAHA project focused on a 6-week structured exercise programme to encourage inactive older adults to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
